The Big Snip

I am of course referring to my new "Do" as opposed to the procedure awaiting The Pianoman down the track.

So I finally went to the hairdressers asking for a little trim of my neglected long blonde tresses and somehow came out sporting a Mocha Concave Bob and became 5kg lighter in the process.

It had somehow been 6 months since I'd been to a hairdresser and while it was absolute bliss having someone play with my hair I did have to die a slow and painful death listening to the young girl continually address me using the "Royal We". I think it was her way of softening the barrage of criticisms.

"How are we today? Oooh it's been a long time since we've been to the hairdressers hasn't it? Those brassy blonde tones aren't doing us any favours are they. Yes, I think we'd look much better with a Mocha tone. No, I don't think we'd suit a fringe. And how will we be paying today? What do we think of the new look?"

Um yes, we think it's great thanks.

  1. Oh Mel, you look gorgeous (although I thought you looked gorgeous with your longer blonde hair too and somehow I think with your pretty features, you'd still look stunning even if you had a shaved head!!!) Good on you for being brave and trying a totally different look. I love it!! Every time I go to the hairdressers it's the same cut and foils for me, although last time I was 'daring' and went for slightly more off the length than usual :) And the 'we' phrases would have annoyed me too :)

  2. I am guilty that as soon as I saw your post heading my first thought was that Pianoman had the snip and my second thought was "too late".
Love your new do and the colour is also fab.
    Spunky mamma.

  3. Oh Mel, you look amazing! A beautiful new do, indeed. I virtually never get to the hairdressers, so 6 months doesn't sound too bad to me... mind you, I'd LOVE to go more often, such a treat to have your hair played with. A gorgeous self portrait xoxo

  5. Love the new look! I have very fine (like baby hair)very curly hair so am envious of those of you with thick locks. I too am prone to months without a trip to the hairdresser but with my curly hair I can give it a bit of a snip myself and you would never know.

  9. Oh i always return to the bob as my staple. As my hair is thick + a lot of it, i like a choppy do, so easy, wash & wear.
I do however, wish i could be asked at the time of my appointment, if i'd like to be left in silence unless it's a critical hair related topic. I never colour my hair, but my natural blonde is fading fast so for the wedding 3 weeks ago, i got it coloured & she kept saying "now you're blonde" & i thought, honey, i've been a natural blonde for longer than you've been alive". What i hated more than the $225 fee (including shampoo for my new blonde hair) was the fact she was READING the trashy magazines & commenting on what i was looking at as she chopped & coloured away. Sorry, focus honey!! I loved the do but when she said "we should consider maybe a splash of red at the back" i said "no thank you, we don't want to" but she didn't get the snark. Argh. They have our hair in their hands, often very young & dare i suggest miseducated, it's a real chore going to the hairdresser. Give me Just Cuts anyway, $28 or something, little conversation as they are fast but man they are great cutters!!
You look simply lovely, what a beautiful mummy of 4.5 children you make. Love Posie

  12. That is a good look for you Mel. 5kgs off the head will give you some playing room once the tummy starts to bulge! Good for you. Now it must be my turn... x
