"A Portrait of my children once a month, every month, in 2013."
Eleanor: Completely absorbed in "The Fleurville Trilogy" by Countess de Segur (Translated by Stephanie Smee)
Charles: When I look at this photo, for the first time I can imagine him as a teenager instead of the 6 year old he is.
Noah: The bit where Nemo's Mother and the other eggs are eaten by the Barracuda.
George: Loves to Whistle.
Flynn: 2 Months old. I could stare into those eyes and kiss those lips all day long.
January has come and gone and if there's anything I've learned about having a newborn it is that the first 12 months fly by faster than an F-18 Hornet. So I've decided to join Jodi in her 2013 weekly portrait series, except I will only be posting portraits of the kids once a month instead of every week. This will surely be enough of a challenge for me considering it has somehow ticked over to February and I am only just posting my January portraits now. It's also a good way to practise using my DSLR on manual as well as providing the Grandparents, who all live interstate, with a monthly snapshot of their Grandchildren and particularly baby Flynn who will change so much over the next 12 months.
I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend.
Stunning pics of your gorgeous people.
ReplyDeleteNo wonder you have chosen to have five!!
Just beautiful!
:-) xx
Mel all of these are absolutely stunning. I saw the first one and thought I love this the best but I couldn't pick one I love them all. The light in these is really beautiful. xx
ReplyDeleteGorgeous portraits Mel, I love that Eleanor is so engrossed in her boook. x
ReplyDeleteAll so beautiful x
ReplyDeleteJust lovely Mel - and well done on the manual settings!!
ReplyDeleteLove to know what Eleanor's reading
x
Ally, it's "The Fleurville Trilogy", a current French Bestseller that's been translated into English - she can not put it down :-)
DeleteOh that baby is just delicious! Your pics are lovely too, I so need to get some manual skills. mel x
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful family Mel, and these are stunning portraits! You and that camera are really getting serious aren't you :D
ReplyDeleteI think this is the first time I've seen them all together, and their names! I love a beautiful old-fashioned name! Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are lovely!
ReplyDeleteLove the look on Noah's face - and Flynn has changed so much! Your family is beautiful :-)
Sarah xx
Your photos are lovely! I haven't joined in with Jodi because I know I won't be able to commit to once a week. Your idea of once a month is a clever alternative - maybe I can get around to trying that instead :-) Colleen x
ReplyDeleteThanks Colleen. It's scary how fast the weeks come around when you do a weekly meme. I'm hoping I can manage 5 photos in a month :-)
DeleteWhat great photos, each of them are totally in the moment.
ReplyDeleteSqueee! I'm so thrilled you've joined this meme Mel! What wonderful portraits of your adorable children....I too look at my 6 year old boy and see his 17 year old self...scary but oh so exciting too that as mum's we can envisage the mature adults they will become. Flynn and those adorable eyes...oh yes, I could stare at them too xx Have a wonderful rest of your weekend xx
ReplyDeleteThey look angelic! I don't suppose for a moment though that they are anything but normally behaved kids though...I'm not fooled entirely!
ReplyDeleteAs a Mum of 5 you would know Carol :-)
DeleteStunning pics of your fab five Mel. You are a beautiful photographer, the grandparents will be thrilled with these updates xo
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots. You use light in such a wonderful way x
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous photos. You seem to have captured them all so well
ReplyDeleteFlynn is such a pixie! I can still remember the first photo of Will when he was about five and I could see his teenager face. It just hits you...and suddenly they're there!
ReplyDeleteReally lovely photographs, Mel - they each have such good light. You're obviously doing something right with the DSLR on manual setting. Your kids are gorgeous too.
ReplyDeleteGillian x
Aw Mel, such gorgeous pictures of moments in time. I love the expression on Noah's face. They are an adorable bunch!
ReplyDeletex
They are beautiful images, when you look back on them you are going to be so glad you did this! :) x
ReplyDeleteI just picked up the Fleurville Trilogy for the Captain, the bookshop in Whistler recommended it... after he had read pretty much everything else they had for his level! I love all of these photos, you are seriously talented! Have you done a photography course? Am wondering whether to do one. xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Emma. I've got lots to learn but it is a fun hobby :-) Yes, I attended Tim Coulson's Nursery last year when he was in Hobart x
DeleteThey're beautiful Mel. I think given you need to take 5 you are more than forgiven for taking 1/month!!! Flynn is scrumptious - now that our girls are in open cots I can't seem to stop kissing them! Not sure if they appreciate it but I'll do it anyway!
ReplyDeleteWow. Beautiful photographs. I like your idea of once a month rather than once a week..! x Jen
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely portraits Mel. Such a good idea to do one a month. I just wouldn't stick to one a week. One a month I could perhaps manage. Oops missed Jan. I think I'll try this on IG. Meant to comment on your last post. Such a great idea too grab a quick break before the return to school. We did something similar at the end of August. We went to a caravan on a very small island off Hampshire called hayling island. We had amazing weather which is always a massive bonus in England and the kids had a great time. I had a break from the house routine and was able to enjoy them all. Have the twins started school? Hope the new term is going well xxx
ReplyDeleteThey all go back this week and the twins start Kindergarten which is 5 days a fortnight. Big week :-)
DeleteBeautiful photos! The manual setting on my DSLR intimidates me. I'm hoping to figure it out this year.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMel, I agree that once a month would be enough of a challenge... kinda think I'll probably morph into once a month myself! Just fab to see all five beautiful shots. x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos - beautiful kids :) The first one is breathtaking! xx
ReplyDeleteFabulous pics. So natural and gorgeous! x
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely, peaceful tones in all of these...I especially love that first one :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots Mel. I like your approach to Jodi's portraits. Sometimes I feel a bit of pressure to find a good shot of my girls but it is great fun joining in. And you'll still have a wonderful set of photos at the end of the year that you could turn into a 2013 album of your 5 gorgeous kiddos x
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the 52 Project! You live in my favourite part of the world and your children are just gorgeous. Looking forward to seeing your photos this year!
ReplyDeleteWow five. How do you do it?
ReplyDeleteI have 3, two o f which are identical twins, and they keep me so on my toes I can't imagine having any more!
We are also planning a road trip around Australia so I am greatly excited to have stumbled across your wonderful blog and a kindred spirit.x
These shots are absolutely stunning. Wow. Such a beautiful family and such great photography x
ReplyDeleteoh, how lovely to meet another mama of 5!
ReplyDeleteI also have one (eldest) girl, 9, and 4 sons
lovely to 'meet' you :)

I am already enchanted with your family - living the life in Tassie, how divine!!! I have a newborn boy too, an eldest girl and another little guy in the middle - cant believe you have two more than that, lol!!!! And what a great big sis Eleanor must be. Such peaceful, gentle portraits of your clan - I am guessing life must often be a little bit noisier than these portraits appear but bet you love it!
ReplyDeleteOh your kiddies are just divine! Beautiful photographs, you've captured them beautifully!
ReplyDeleteI'm a first time visitor to your blog and we are contemplating an around Oz trip with our two children a 2.5year old and 5mth old, both girls! I am yet to read all your 'The big adventure' posts but would love to know more about it, how the kids coped, did you have a caravan, schooling, tips...etc! We've been on two 6week trips to Cape York and several other trips with the little ones, but only holidays. Would love to hear any advice you have for a big trip!! Thanks Andrea
