Hello there. I wasn't going to do a post tonight but I've been a bit slack with my weekly happies and I also needed a distraction from the large Bushfire that is raging out of control right now on the hill neighbouring our property. This Bushfire is much closer than the last ones. There were 28 fire trucks and 3 helicopters dropping water bombs on the area all afternoon. It seems OK at the moment but there is a predicted wind change this evening so I doubt there will be much sleep - we are still on a "Watch and Act alert". It was another 30 degree day here today - so much for the end of Summer!
Anyway, in the 24 hours before the Bushfire broke out there was plenty to be happy about but here are my 4 happies for the week.
1. Dusk. It's been beautiful lately and last night I captured it from the bedroom window as I put Flynn down to sleep.
2. I awoke this morning to an equally beautiful Sunrise (Thank you Flynn for the early wake-up call :-) ). I didn't even get out of bed to take this shot - just snapped it on the iPhone while I fed him. With mornings like this, he may just make a morning-person out of me yet.
3. It was a glorious day and I went for a brisk walk along the beach after dropping the kids off at school. It makes me so happy that we live so close to the beach and that it is so pristine and never crowded. I go there a lot with the kids but it's been years since I've been able to walk along the beach on my own and at an invigorating pace. Today it was just me with Flynn in the sling and it was lovely.
4. Finally, is there anything more gorgeous than a lovely elderly couple. I watched these two for a good 20 minutes as I walked back in their direction. She with her hat and frock watching him while he had his morning dip. When I walked passed she was asking him all about his little swim. It just made me so happy. I hope The Pianoman and I are like that in our old age, preferably with me in the water with him!
While I'm here, a big thank you for all of your very encouraging and supportive comments lately. I really appreciate each and every one and apologise that I've been slower getting back to you since Flynn's arrival. And welcome to any new readers who have hopped on board. Please sing out if you have a Blog of your own that I may not know about yet won't you? Have a lovely week xxx
Update: The Fire is out thanks to the amazing and tireless efforts of the Tasmanian Fire Service as well as Mother Nature who finally provided some much needed drizzle the past few nights. Thanks for all your well wishes and concern....
Such beautiful scenery, the photos make it look so peaceful. I especially love how you captured the horse being led through the shallow waves. x
ReplyDeleteGood luck tonight....we can see the fires on your hill from upstairs at ours....let's hope they got the wind change forecast wrong. Your happy moments look so good.....enjoy! Rx
ReplyDeleteThanks Romy. It was a pretty picture perfect day today wasn't it? Mel x
DeleteGorgeous. Well no no the fires. I hope all is safe and well on that front but beautiful moments you have captured. Nothing like an amazing sunset/sunrise and a beach walk to yourself. Lovely
ReplyDeleteHello Mel, what a beautiful beach! I've been to 'my'beach this morning too .. icy cold though! I hope the fire is out now, that must be a big worry.
ReplyDeleteYou visited me last week, and that was how I found your delightful blog, but it would be lovely to have you visit again!
Love Claire xxx
Just stunning, you live in a beautiful part of the world! :) x
ReplyDeleteYou have captured some magical shots of your heavenly corner of the world. I am in awe and so happy for you that, despite the threat of bush fires you are being subjected to, you live in such a beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteWalking at a brisk pace? That IS wonderful, isn't it? ;-)
Thanks Stephanie. Yes, a brisk walk is not something I've been able to achieve these last few years with the little people around. I'm hoping to do a lot more of it this year x
DeleteI came across your blog a few days ago but hadn't commented, so I thought I should say hi :) To be honest I'm filled with awe at how gorgeous it is where you live; I hadn't really thought of Tasmania much before but it's on my list to visit one day now! I can't imagine what it is like to have to think about bushfires though, so best wishes for a safe night and fingers crossed that it will burn out soon.
ReplyDeleteAlso, 30 degrees?! Having been shivering in a British winter (and autumn, and summer!) for so long now, I find it hard to imagine what that feels like! Meredith x
beautiful mel, so lovely to see these incredible views (thank you flynn, such a good little helper already!). so sorry to hear about the fires again, i also hope they end soon, with little to no damage. our beaches look very similar, when there isn't a surf contest in town! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my ... you live in a beautiful place ... your photos are beautiful ... Bee xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous post - you made me smile and feel happy too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kristy :-)
DeleteThose photos are so serene, just gorgeous.....
ReplyDeleteAnd that old couple, they are lovely! Hope me and Sam are like that at that age!!
Stay safe and hope you keep enjoying your lovely views, and the peace and quiet....
xo
Beautiful photos Mel, I loved every one of them :-)
ReplyDeleteHope the bush fire didn't do any damage and you got some sleep!
Sarah xo
Such fabulous photos, Mel. I do hope that's the end of your bush fires. Like you I adore seeing elderly couples happy together. Sigh. And that beach of yours. Just unbelievable. Xx Sarah
ReplyDeleteHoping that the bushfires will all end soon and that you got some sleep last night. Your photographs are lovely, the last one is especially gorgeous. I hope my mister and I are like that too (although I hope I am in the water with him). Feel free to pop over to my currently neglected spot in blogland.

The fire was (is) scary - I took some snaps from my place up on the hill at Springfield last night, looked VERY close to houses over at Risdon. I've marvelled at the sunsets/sunrises the last few days also, this mornings the sun was blood red, mostly from the smoke I think. Love the beach shots - is that 7 mile? Even though we're so close, I always don't think to walk on the beach - you've inspired me to do it more often especially whilst the evenings are still light and we have the warmer weather hanging around. Karen
ReplyDeleteYes, it's 7 mile Beach Karen - only a few weeks before the clocks go forward and we lose those precious hours of light. Mel x
DeleteThe landscape near your home is just stunning. x
ReplyDeleteI loved the first photo and that pretty sky with all of those tiny clouds breezing overhead. Gorgeous beach too, you are indeed very blessed to have this beach so close to home and so pristine. Have a happy week!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are beautiful. Stay safe Mel xo
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures. I love seeing older couples too and I wonder the same thing will my husband and I be like that. Enjoy your beach walks. I also walk on the beach here in New York but it has been freezing today 1 to 3 inches of snow we cant wait for spring. This Saturday we change our clocks ahead 1 hour.
ReplyDeleteSuch a serene post, Mel. Amazing when the fire was blazing so close to you. You never cease to amaze me, my friend. J x
ReplyDeleteHi Jane, yes so hard to believe isn't it?! A picture perfect morning with a lovely walk along the beach and just 6 hours later a Bushfire breaks out, the skies fill with smoke and we have an anxious sleepless night! Mel x
DeleteSimply gorgeous photos Mel - your part of the world is very inviting.
ReplyDeleteStay safe and I hope tonight is a better night (and there's some more rain)
x
(Blogger appears to have eaten my comment - sorry if this is duplicated)
ReplyDeleteSuch gorgeous photos Mel - you make rural living look very attractive!!
Fingers crossed for a better night and some more lovely rain
x
Your photos are absolutely glorious, Mel.
ReplyDeleteI hope everyone stays safe. x
Gorgeous Mel, all of it. Your beautiful words, your glorious photos. What a happy space to visit here :)
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to read about the bush fires, hope all has calmed down now and you're all completely safe. Here's to some more Tassie like temps soon xoxo
Mel you make me want to move tomorrow to Tasmania, beautiful pics.
ReplyDeleteThe old couple at the end are lovely. That's what I'd like to be doing in a few decades time too. Do you remember the M.I.L.K photos from a good few years ago? There was one older couple, nude, holding hands and about to go for a swim- I always loved that picture. Unfortunately I can't link it here, as searching for the words- nude old couple milk? Well, it's just not going to happen :-)
Yes! I DO remember that - gorgeous :-)
DeleteOh. My. Word. Those are the views from your windows?! I knew they were the views from your hill but hadn't realised the house had them too. I know having bush fires crop up so near must be pretty scary, and that there are unseen downs that accompany the documented highs (as there are for us all) but I think if I woke and went to sleep at night with so much sky in view I could bear a great deal. And to be so close to that glorious blue sea. Spectacular!
ReplyDeleteOops, a whippet paw on keyboard moment at this end and you only get half a comment. Was just going to add 'Stay safe' x
ReplyDeleteGlorious, love the horse on the beach & yes, i watch old couples too, just fascinating, love Posie
ReplyDeleteYour posts always make me smile. The hill behind the lovely old couple looks very dry, I would send you our wet weather if I could.
ReplyDeleteWow, the views from your window are incredible! You can see the sea!!! And what a stunning dusk.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear you have bush fires again, and I hope you and yours are ok and stay safe. :-)
Gillian xx
Beautiful photos Mel - hope the fire has been put out? Take care xx
ReplyDeleteI think our newest are roughly the same age, I am going to have a little look about to check! I am very jealous of the views you have seen this week. Actually tonight jealousy seems to have been a theme looking at others blogs! Enjoy the week ahead.
ReplyDeleteGood grief I should read mosre carefully! I am really sorry to hear about the bushfires and definitely take back my inappropriate 'jealous' comments!
ReplyDeleteHi Mel I've only just managed to catch up, so glad to hear in your update that the fire is out & you're all safe! What stunning views you have, I'm very envious - although my view right now isn't too bad as we've had more snow and the garden looks it's best when covered over! (I'm no gardener!)
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that fire is no longer a threat Mel. It must have been a huge ongoing stress with the fires this Summer. Ours was only one fire, let alone several in a row. A little too close for comfort by the sounds of things.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place to live in though. We sadly did not make it over this time around, but the goal is hopefully next year. I meant to thank you Mel for extremely helpful email (which I've saved for future reference!) but time got away on me as we prepared to go away. Victoria was a little easier on the wallet and as far as 2 year olds are concerned! Hope your week is a good one Mel. It is nice to be able to "visit" once again :)
Oh blimey! I was about to ask if you're all OK, but I've just read your bottom bit...thank goodness.
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are gorgeous and have me dreaming of Summer, beautifully documented.
Nina x
I do love a beautiful sunset and sunrise too but I'm never up that early, I would have to say though the early morning is my favourite:) Your walk sounds perfect, some time with your little one and time to allow your thoughts to be taken away by the sound of the ocean, I wish I lived closer by to the ocean. The old couple is very sweet, I look forward to that day with my hubby. Wishing you a wonderful week. xx
