6 Months old

Flynn is 6 months old today, halfway through his very first year. It's gone so fast! I'm conscious that I haven't really documented any of his milestones here but they haven't gone unnoticed - that would be impossible with 8 other little eyes reporting back on every single little thing he does. Time for a little update on where we are at.

He's turned out to be a very relaxed little boy, with the look of his sister and the temperament of his biggest brother. He's definitely the biggest baby by a long shot and people guess his age at 8 - 10 months. We joke that he must be getting a double feed every time because he had Twins come before him who must have increased the milk capacity. A more logical answer is probably his German/American ancestry. Definitely no nutritional reason for him needing his favourite 4am feed anymore.

The months have just crept up without us realising it. One day he was sitting on my lap at dinner time and he grabbed the fork out of my hand and fed himself some mashed potatoes. It was only then that I realised he was 4 1/2 months old and probably ready for me to introduce some solids. I started with the rice cereal and waited till we came back from our road trip to start him on more substantial food, which he is loving. He teethed early too, with 2 pearly whites making their appearance at 4 months and 28 days.

Aside from the week we had at the 6 week mark where he just would not settle, he's been sleeping well since and I am very close to saying he sleeps through the night. The other 4 all slept through somewhere between 6 and 8 months and he is following the exact same sleep/feed routine so it should be soon. He slept 3 nights in a row until 6.30am the week before we went to Sydney for the weekend and again last night but there is still the odd night he wakes at 4am. I always put the babies to bed around 7pm and do a feed between 10 and 11pm so that they continue to sleep until 6.30am when they drop the 4am feed.

I abandoned all plans today and just spent a quiet day at home with Flynn while the other Kids were at School. The Sunrises and Sunsets have been amazing lately. We went for a walk around our place. The top corner of our property is covered with a glorious crop of  Serated Tussock, which I love. Sadly, it's a prolific weed of national significance and we were notified it had to be sprayed. It was done today so I wanted to take a picture of it before it is gone. Things are looking a bit greener around here and the signs of autumn are fading with just a few leaf stragglers left on the branches. There's not much flowering in the garden, a few bulbs and the odd daisy. I spotted Cecil, my Indian Runner Duck and decided to make it a priority to get him a new Girlfriend as I can't bear seeing him mope around on his own without a companion. Winter is definitely on the way in.

I popped Flynn in his cradle and realised he has just about outgrown it. He's almost ready for a cot and his own room, just as soon as he sleeps through......The gorgeous bunting above his cradle was a gift for Flynn, made by this lovely lady. Thank you Brydie! The kindness of fellow bloggers never ceases to amaze me.

I hope you are all having a great week and welcome to any new readers, it's lovely to have you.

  1. Flynn is growing up beautifully Mel! The time has gone fast and it seems that you've coped really well with all of it. Those tussocks look like tufts of golden hair in the photo..a shame that they're a weed.

  7. Your photos are so beautiful today - that golden light! Amazing.

Flynn is delicious. Both my babies were huge and I started solids at 4 1/2 months - no way they were going to wait any longer! Flynn is making me quite broody actually! x

  8. Big babies are the best ... I had three big ones, 9 lb 12oz, 10lb 5oz and 9lb 2oz and they were the easiest handled babies ever ... although I may be a little biased ;) ... Flynn is so cute ... Bee xx

  9. I had 3 bigger than average babies who turned into 3 smaller than average children but are now (well 2 of them)growing into tall men, the little lady has yet to have a growth spurt!
The views from you place are absolutely stunning Mel, an ever changing masterpiece hung on the wall - I guess the best view of all the pictures above is of Flynn though. x

  14. Oh Mel, your property is stunning with that breathtaking view!! When can I move in? :) Those scenic shots are beautiful and I love being able to see a shot of your home from the outside. The light streaming in onto your table in the second shot reminds me of mornings here with my girls at our table :)

Flynn is ever adorable... SOOO much like his big sister :) Sounds like it won't be long until he sleeps through for you. I did the 10pm dream feed with Grace too but with Sophie, I was too tired to stay up until 10 to feed her and so she woke for her 2am/3am feed every night for almost ten months until one night, she just didn't wake :)

Sounds like a lovely day for you and your little man... your duck is adorable too xx

  15. Happy six months mama (and gorgeous bubba too of course!). What beautiful views you have. One of my boys was a big chunka too (although still a shorty like me.. ha) and my sister in law used to say he just had "rolls of love" :) I liked that.

  17. What a little cutie! Imogen is nearly 8 months and its scaring me how fast the time has gone. She is crawling and standing up now. I feel like any minute now I'm going to turn around and she'll be walking. It's crazy! They grow up way too fast.

  20. Hello lovely Mel,

I am tempted to pay you a huge compliment! You are after all quite stunning and you are raising a brood of beautiful children. I'm afraid I may sound a little silly though so I will settle instead for writing about how wonderful the six-month mark is for babies and how I have savoured each step with my little Angélique (almost three and a half now) knowing she is my last. It's a privilege being a parent, isn't it?

    Warmest wishes from sunny France,

    Stephanie
