Karma

Karma is a Husband forgetting his Wife's Birthday which prompts the Wife to write a Blog Post highlighting the oversight and then having the name of said Blog appear in the Newspaper the very next day, further drawing attention to a situation the Husband was wanting to quickly forget (as well as prolonging his time in the Doghouse).

Thank you to everyone who sent "Happy Birthday" comments, e-mails and messages in response to my last Post.

So last Friday I received a phone call from a friend saying she saw a mention of my Blog in the Newspaper that morning. Say what?!? There was a full page article titled "Follow the Blogging Leaders" in Tasmania's Mercury featuring three lovely prominent Tasmanian Bloggers who I'm sure don't need any introduction - Angela from Kidstylefile, Michelle from Hugo and Elsa and Jane from Life on Planet Baby. It was a really positive piece that captured the essence of Blogging while highlighting the different 'types' of Blogs out there - Personal, Business, Lifestyle.

There was a box titled "Other Popular Tassie Blogs" and my Blog was listed there along with 5 other Blogs. How exciting! I was completely shocked and actually didn't know what to make of it. On the one hand the excitement of being mentioned in the paper was overtaken by the thrill of having my humble little blog that I started last year and that has just 61 followers listed there alongside the legendary Pip from Meet Me At Mikes. On the other hand I was slightly disturbed that my Blog had gone 'Public' with my last Post highlighting my forgetful Husband - "Hi, I'm Mel and I'm a Blogger and I have the worst Husband In The World!"

A lot of people I know, both friends and acquaintances, don't know that I Blog, but they do now as a result of the article. It's not a secret by any means but i just haven't gone out of my way to tell anyone. I "outted" myself to family and some friends about my Blog while we were travelling around the country so they could see what we were up to. For some reason, having people read my posts who I have never met before seems to be far less intimidating than having people I do know read them. Or is that just me?

And poor Pianoman! He will never live forgetting my Birthday down, receiving quite a bit of stick from people who stumbled onto my Blog from the article.

All is forgiven as far as I'm concerned though. Last Thursday The Pianoman started baking up a storm in the kitchen. Baking sweets is his specialty. The first batch of Macarons flopped but after tweaking his Macronage so that the tops didn't crack, he came out with not 1, not 2, but 3 different types of the most delectable Macarons all for my tasting pleasure. He is often found pursuing this gorgeous Blog for inspiration and the recipe for these babies can be found here.

He baked me Macarons. Apology well and truly accepted!

Happy Monday!!

  1. I think that is a huge compliment being mentioned in the paper. Oh, I bet there is no way that Pianoman will forget the B-day next year. :)

I have only told a couple of close people about my blog. I too find it a bit intimidating to have people I know read my blog. x

  5. Congrats Mel, how lovely to be mentioned. I know how you feel though, I am a 'closet blogger' only a few close friends know that I blog, it is just so much less intimidating.
I am impressed with the macaroons, I've only just managed to teach hubby how not to burn chops on the BBQ!

  8. Wow Mel, that is SO cool, well done! I totally know what you mean about feeling intimidated by people I actually 'know' reading my blog. Only a handful of 'real' life friends know I blog... my family doesn't know at all. That's a pretty big secret... but so silly too, as nothing I write about is offensive in any way.
The macarons look amazing, clever hubby, so nice that all is forgiven too xo

  9. How great to be mentioned in the paper. I don't blog. Just love reading blogs like yours. Isnt that typical, being in the paper the day of your forgotten birthday post? Poor hubby! He sounds like a totally lovely man. And he bakes macaroons too. Wow. Glad all forgiven. He'll never forget again! Sarah

  11. I know exactly what you mean about knowing that people you know read your blog. I'm used to it now but in the beginning it was really discombobulating! But hey, if it comes about because you're mentioned in the paper ... go girl!!!

Lovely husband, baking up an apology :D

  12. Those macarons look divine. Congrats on the mention in the paper. I'm like you not many of my family know I keep my blog. Recently a few have found out, and it does make me think a bit differently about what I write about! Not that I ever share anything unkind about them but I tended to think of it as my space with my online friends! Oh well. I guess it was inevitable.

  14. Hi! Nice to find your blog. You're sort of living my dream actually. I'm a Tassie girl currently living in Brisbane. I'd love to move back there... I am terrified of huntsman spiders though (they run so fast), which always was a problem in Tassie.

Very impressed by the macaroons too. Yum.

  15. Only a few of my family and friends know that I blog, too. I feel a bit weird telling people, so I haven't (much).

What funny timing with your newspaper article and the forgotten birthday. The macarons look amazing.

  16. What a clever husband to make such tricky trifles! I have just figured out why I never get your posts and have sorted the googly thing. I agree about the intimidating public blogging. I was a closet blogger with only a few friends and family knowing until the health thing happened recently and now feel a bit more self conscious because lots of acquaintances started reading. You just have to ignore the feeling and stay true to your original idea.
    That grey beanie is adorable!

  18. Mel a big belated happy birthday first up and second... Pianoman makes macarons!!! Ohhh, you lucky thing. Sure he forgot your birthday...not so good, but the macarons...oooo, very good. I've always been too nervous to give these goodies a go.

I know what you mean about getting nervy when 'real' people read your blog too. I still usually forget though ;-)
(Plus your blog is awesome, you should be proud.)
