One Crochet Baby Blanket - DONE!

Thank you all so much for your lovely get well wishes after my last Post and I'm sorry I've been slack and not visiting all your Blogs as a result. The Flu turned me into quite a sook this last week and so I shunned technology so my gloominess didn't infiltrate your spaces.

My day on the sofa with my "Grannies" actually turned into five days on the sofa but the Flu did result in a fever-induced crochet frenzy which enabled me to ignore everything and everyone and finally finish my very first crochet project. And here it is -  one Autumn-inspired Granny Square Baby Blanket!!!

Ta-da!!!!!!!!

I am disproportionately excited about finishing this little blanket. Unless of course it is normal behaviour to call one's husband and squeal into the phone "I've finished the blanket!!!" even though he was just outside in the Vegie Patch. I then felt compelled to lovingly photograph said blanket in all different locations and positions.

I can't wait to see my new little baby wrapped up in it. These were the colours I saw outside the window during Autumn when I found out I was pregnant and we were so excited about the new addition. The grey of the trees, the teal and blue of the sky and the Coal River and the yellows and reds of the Autumn leaves.

I fantasised about snipping all the ends off with my little scissors but I did not commit this crochet sin. No, I dutifully wove them all in even though it took hours and hours. The Blanket turned out bigger than I thought so I am keen to do a little ripple blanket for the pram next. But only if Annie will share  her no-ends-joining-technique :-). I definitely need a break from yarn ends.

OK, so I'm off to visit you all now and catch up on your news.

Hope you all have a great week!

  4. Oh I love it Mel! You clever sick thing you. Just look at what can be achieved when there is a little 'forced' time out. I think your location shots are beautiful... especially like the one with whippet standing alongside of it, too cute! So glad to hear you're feeling better though and let's hope you've had your dose for the year now xoxo

  6. Oh i had the cold last week too, only not pregnant, plus a husband to help with 4 children who were all in school each day, so i could blow, sob, sneeze solo during the days. I did feel plenty sorry for myself. If you're husband is anything like mine, he'll just grin & understand your crafty project, as he knows what it means to you & the family. I don't mind the faux excitement he puts on, i can hardly get excited about his job!! Love Posie

  7. Hi Mel, Love your granny square blanket. I made a two of them as my very first foray into craft many years ago. I used to visit a lovely old lady as a 12 year old and she taught me to crochet. I did one in big squares like yours, for my mum and another in 4 inch squares for my grandma.(I still have this one) I had long forgotten all that weaving in. Your diligence made me smile as that tedious memory came back to me. I am an ex-tassie girl and just love your farm,it is a beautiful area. Happy days to you. Chris.

  10. Divinely perfect for baby number 5...

I'm over here, encouraged by the lovely Janey from Planet Baby- whom I do love so much...

Your journey sounds amazing- we are just back from four years living in the wilds in the North of England, in the countryside, with our three kiddos from the beaches of Sydney...traveling with kids- there is nothing so precious...

Very very happy to have met you (thanks Janey x)...

  11. Mel I love it! It looks awesome. I think I have 4 crochet projects going at the moment so that satisfied feeling of actually finishing something is waaaay off. Glad you finished yours though and I'm with you, I want to ripple next.... just have to finish something first :-/

  14. Hi Mel, Very happy to have found your blog. Have just had a lovely lovely read. So impressed by the grannies. They almost make getting that awful flu worthwhile. Makes me want to have a go at crochet myself.
